Jury Trials / Board Meetings - Week of March 10th

This week was dominated by jury trials and board meetings. On Monday, we selected juries for several cases set this week. We ultimately settled the case I was to try (Tim Phillips – owner of A Plus Pawn) with Mr. Phillips and his wife, both agreeing to plead guilty to receiving stolen property and to execute permission to search forms allowing law enforcement to search their pawn shop business as long as they remain in business in Lauderdale County.

Also this week, I attended the Cramer Childrens Center board meeting on Monday night. As a member of this board, I am involved in the search for a full-time executive director. We screened 47 resumes at the board meeting and, using a weighted scoring system, narrowed the field to four candidates. These candidates will be interviewed in April, and we will make a final selection for this important position.

On Thursday evening, I attended the Safeplace board of directors meeting. I made a presentation about One Place of the Shoals to this board. Safeplace is one of the agenices involved in One Place. It was good to meet with this board and provide board members with an overview of how One Place will operate as a cooperative effort to serve victims of family violence in one place.
