Child Support Unit
For the Children...
All children deserve love and support. Our Child Support Unit works diligently to ensure that children of single and divorced parents in our county receive their fair share of child support.
In Cooperation...
Our Child Support Unit works cooperatively with the Alabama Department of Human Resources in enforcing child support and court orders. We strive to ensure that those who are ordered to pay child support are held accountable to the court.

POST-COVID
CHILD SUPPORT COLLECTION EFFORTS:
Our child support unit remained busy during the COVID pandemic. With in-person court hearing suspended by the courts, we turned to the use of Zoom to participate in virtual hearings. We collected approximately $4.8 million in 2020. In a normal year, our collections average around $5 million.
In order to try to increase our collections, we launched our “Pay Up by Father’s Day Campaign” in June 2021. This announced a grace period in the two weeks before Father’s Day in which we encouraged those with past due child support obligations to contact our office to arrange payments. After the grace period, we enlisted the help of the Sheriff’s Department to serve warrants on those with past due support obligations.
This campaign led to an increase in collections of past due child support.
Our Unit remains committed to carrying out our mission of collecting court-ordered child support for children in our county. We also continue to be willing to work with those ordered to pay child support. Any person with past-due child support is encouraged to contact our Child Support Unit to arrange a payment plan.
