Parole Hearing - Eric Boyd - Week of April 29th

On Tuesday, April 30th, I attended the parole hearing of Eric Boyd. I joined with the family of Danny Sledge in opposing parole for Boyd, who along with his younger brother, Nathan, brutally murdered Danny Sledge at Danny's business, The Galley, in March 1999. Eric was sentenced to life in prison. After hearing heartfelt statements from members of Danny's family, along with my objections and objections from a representative of the Attorney General's office, the parole board denied Boyd's request for parole. The sense of relief by the Sledge family was palpable in the hearing room. While the parole board did the right thing in this case, it is wrong that the Sledge family (and many other families) have to continue to deal with such events.
